Would like to see Whiting’s speed with the Nats. Sort of like Herb Washington of the early 70’s Athletics. Difference is, Boomer can play.

Not sold on Boomer, great speed but his bat is suspect. Looking at the stats and the first thing I looked at is how many triples does he have? the answer is a surprising ZERO. Defense IMO is also suspect. also strikes out alot for a leadoff guy.

Whiting is batting 9th for a reason. love the speed, but that’s about it

If you like Boomer Whiting, you’ll LOVE Chris Curran. Tiny guy, but fast as the wind. He can hit, he’s aggressive on the bases and in the field. Watching him play is a pleasure. You almost wish the other players would play as hard as he does. Plus, he plays with a passion that is VERY rare.

homegrown-Have not seen Whiting play, but MiLB had this to say about his defense: “Rizzo also pointed to Whiting’s defense as a big reason why he’s so excited to have landed him” and ” He can really cover ground in center field”. His bat seems suspect, but would enjoy his speed on the bases.

Dill – hmmm. With numbers better than (ERA, WHIP anyway) Storen, if you don’t move the elder Dill up, something is up?

With Dill – I just love that we are getting this kind of return from a 35th round draft pick.

mcgalinmd- Curran’s speed does not translate well in stoben base stats. Sometimes speedy players don’t always convert their skill to base stealing. Would you say Curran is faster than Whiting?

I’ve seen both play in Hagerstown, as well as i’ve seen Boomer play for Potomac in Frederick & Myrtle Beach. Both are fast, but i’ll tell you – for seat of the pants excitement of “something’s going to happen” I like CC. Not saying Boomer’s bad at all. If you could have both of them in the outfield? – nothing would get by either! Boomer has a better bat IMHO. CC has made some crazy plays this year for Hagerstown – things you’d never expect him to jump for or run to.

Also should have said when you see CC run the bases, his feet are moving so fast it looks like the feet on a cartoon character spinning in circles. He hustles like no other.

mcgalinmd- thanks for sharing your observations. I am not close to any Nat affiliates, but will go down to Buffalo next month to watch Syracuse.
