Marrero to Harrisburg; Pecina to Potomac

1B Chris Marrero was promoted to Double-A Harrisburg and LHP Ricardo Pecina was promoted to Potomac

    Was this done to get Chris into the Arizona Fall League? Isn’t today the cutoff?

    Good for Marrero, although that could hurt the P-Nats chances for back-to-back Carolina League championships. The move does put HAR one man over the roster limit, and leaves both POT & HAG one man short; I wonder if they’ll send Rhinehart down to POT this late in the year?

    I could see this promotion, but didn’t Rizzo say that he was staying in Potomac for the full year so that he could work on his defense? Or am I thinking of Norris?

    Rizzo said that Marrero would not be promoted. The AZL League explanation makes sense.

    Brian, On an off topic, I was under the impression that Aaron Crow pitched for the Fort Worth Cats this season. Hence, I checked the Cats statistics on their web site and, under the pitchers section, I could not find Crow’s name. How so? If he actually did pitch for the Cats, do you know what his statistics were? Why is he no longer listed? Thanks. /statistics.cfm

    Regarding Pecina’s promotion, I’d guess that either HAG is going to activate Matias, or that Bronson is coming up from VT.

    phil – No idea where his #s went. He did pitch for them because I recall tracking his outings this spring

    I’m a bit surprised to see Marrero get promoted, his avg and obp are ok, but where is the power? A power hitter (even at his young age) with a .430ish SLG in High A is not blowing wind up my skirt.

    OK, so I spoke to soon on Marrero’s numbers, actual numbers at Potomac, as of Sunday;

    .287/.360/.464/.824

    I stand by my point though, none of those numbers scream top prospect moving through the system. AFL eligibility makes sense, after missing half of last year he needs as many ABs as possible (and defensive reps too).

    Looks like Morse got selected from SYR to replace Kensing in WSH. Now SYR is down a player as well; Guzman or Nanita goes up, maybe?

    Marrero was for sure an AFL move. Maybe Whitney moves up so Syracuse has a 1B.

    At Syracuse, Eldred is back off of the DL and Ward is there, so no pressing need to promote a 1B. I would not be shocked if Davis were promoted – he can play many positions and thus a utility role.

    russ: SYR already has a few 1B (Eldred, Ward, or Casto). What they need is another OF. The team DL’ed Vento on the 15th, that’s why Casto is playing RF.

    Ric: Lost track of Davis – He’d be a good choice for promotion to SYR.

    Didn’t realize Eldred was off of DL. Davis had a solid year and makes sense for a promotion.

    Indy leagues routinely fold the stats of players that have left the team for whatever reason under “All others.” Howe(ever) Sports Data, though, keeps track of ‘em all.
