Rodriguez to Potomac

The Nationals have made the corresponding move in Hagerstown to account for the promotion of RHP Trevor Holder. RHP Osvaldo Rodriguez has been promoted from Hagerstown to Potomac. The 25-year old Rodriguez was 2-3 with 10 saves for the Suns in 2009. Over 35 1/3IP, he had a 3.06ERA and 1.30WHIP with 47 strikeouts and 13 walks. I assume he is going to take a spot in the Potomac bullpen.

UPDATE: IF Dan Lyons was placed on the DL in Potomac to open a spot for Rodriguez

Is it too early to assign Trevor a nickname? I’m thinking “Place” Holder works nicely.

Good luck Ozzie – Suns fans will miss you!

Lyons could be done for the year with a dislocated shoulder

Brian – what is the MLB projection for Ozzie? Mid reliever? Set up man? Closer? I find him curious because he went 12-0 last year at DSL (overpowering those 18 year olds). Why was he moved to reliever/closer? Lack of good relievers?

Mark – One man’s opinion, but Osvaldo probably got moved to the b’pen because he lacked an off-speed pitch he could throw for strikes. Fastball-Slider is great against young pros, or in short stints against higher competition.

Sean Rooney is being moved to AA today.

Tom – What’s your source? MiLB transaction wires don’t show anything yet, but the move would make sense.

would that be a precurson to you-know-what?

    precursor* Sorry.

Addendum to Tom – The move would make sense, since the CA position in HAR can’t seem to hit their weight. The Peacock/Ivany combo in POT would be allright in the short-term, and leave room for Norris @POT in 2010. Test Rooney at AA for the remainder of the year – see what he’s got; He’s only been in pro ball for two-plus years.

That meshes with some stuff I have been hearing. Will let you know once I get official confirmation.

I’d love to see Norris go to Potomac if Rooney is going to AA.

Norris has a shot at a Triple Crown in the Sally League though.

My dream is still Norris in LF, Harper in RF, and Flores at C. Of course the Nats are going to go 74-1 the rest of this year and blow the Harper thing.

@John(inMpls?): I think Norris stays in HAG for 2009, unless somebody pushes from behind (Killian in VT, or Nieto / Martinez in the GCL) this year. Then either send Norris to the fall league to work on becoming a catcher, or to work on fielding a new position. Based on his results there, he’ll start 2010 in either POT or HAR, and move from there, imo.

    Bin: I’m not JohninMpls.

I’d move him off catcher, but that’s me. I wonder if they might send him to Potomac at the end of the season to help them win in the playoffs.

@John: I’d love to see Norris as a hitter (but not behind the plate) in POT for a playoff push, but as I’ve said, there needs to be some movement from behind (VT/GCL) in the CA position to fill the gap.

Let’s see what the numbers look like in early August.

Norris is going to Potomac to take Rooney’s slot. Rumor has it that Herrerra called it quits at Harrisburg thus Rooney/Norris got promoted.
