Just out from the Syracuse Post-Standard
Syracuse outfielder Lastings Milledge fractured his right hand while attempting to bunt in the first inning of the Chiefs game against the Indianapolis Indians here at Alliance Bank Stadium on Monday morning.
No word on how long he is out.
UPDATE: Dave Sheinin at NJ reports it’s actually a broken right ring finger. That’s better news for Milledge.

That’s awful for Lastings. Great effort by JD Martin however. I recall somebody givng this guy an outside chance @ #5 starter for the Nats during one of those off season chats.

When it rains it pours for this kid, I hope he heals quickly…

Too bad for him. Anybody figured the Nats record with and without Milledge?

Even if you did, it wouldn’t mean anything.
Unless you’re implying that Milledge was tipping pitches to the batters from centerfield.

That is to bad about Miledge; I agree with AlaxVA, this JD Martin’s command is right on. Of course he’s always been there!!! Just look at his career stats. He’s ready for the Big League Test…NOW

JD might be a great comeback story after undergoing Tommy John surgery. He was highly touted at one time but he may be a decent #5 or middle reliever, as he was used last year.

Who gets the call from Harrisburg if Milledge is DLed?

So it’s prob getting close to the end of the Nats + Milledge. Sad. I was really hoping he would develop.

Because he broke a finger, he’s done? Please. He’ll miss a couple weeks then be right back in the line up.

I mean he hasn’t been doing anything in the minors. FO seemed pretty upset with him. I hoping he can turn it around but I could see them dealing him now

To presume Milledge’s time with the Nats is over is really jumping the gun. He was their leader in HR and RBI (I think??) last season and showed flashes of being a decent hitter. The trip to the minors IMO was meant to humble him, let him work out some of his defensive issues and to create some playing time for Kearns/Willingham. Keep in mind Kearns and Dunn (move to 1B) most likely will open some positions in the outfield next year (or by the trading deadline for Kearns), so Milledge will be needed. Get healthy Lastings.

Of course I want Milledge to succeed, I was just saying that he has underperformed in the minors and doesn’t seem to understand why he is down there
