Lombardozzi has been having a pretty good year at the plate down in low A. Who has seen him play to tell us what he’s like in the field?
#2 by cjrugger - August 28th, 2009 at 08:24
Haven’t seen him but agreed, very intriguing. He’s been very consistent this year too
#3 by mcgalinmd - August 28th, 2009 at 08:34
I have watched Lombo play all year. He’s extremely consistent, a great fielder. He has good range to both sides. I just wish he has a better complimentary player at SS (souza there now; not good) as Tyler Moore at first has also done a great job and been very consistent all year. Lombo hits well too. He doesn’t seem to swing at pitches he shouldn’t. Our group of fans were talking about him last night….probably the best player the Suns have along with Chris Curran and Tyler Moore.
Lombardozzi’s year could/would have been better if consistent fielding could have been managed from the opposite side of the field (SS and 3rd) which was absolutely horrid this year.
#4 by Gusto - August 28th, 2009 at 08:57
And he’ll be 22 next year…hmmmm…. may be a candidate for late ‘11 or early 12?
#5 by AlexVA - August 28th, 2009 at 09:04
“probably the best player the Suns have along with Chris Curran and Tyler Moore.”
Except for Norris of course
#6 by cjrugger - August 28th, 2009 at 09:07
Thanks mc
Yeah he’ll be 21 for all of next year. If he can cover Potomac and Hburg the next 2 years, he could challenge for a job out of spring training as a 23 year old in ‘12
Its remarkable the depth we’ve developed at 2B this year (Lombo, Kobernus, H. Jimenez), when last year it looked barren
#7 by Sec 204 Row H Seat 7 - August 28th, 2009 at 09:11
Congrats to Harrisburg for slogging back to .500 (thus playing above .500 beginning in mid-june(?)) after that horrendous start. Bob Boone needs to make Norris his special project. Is Branson for real? And finnally, Pete Orr does not do it for me, wanted to Maxwell get some playing time. Can Orr play Second base?
#8 by russ - August 28th, 2009 at 09:31
I thought Orr spent lots of time at the 2B position?
#9 by Brian Oliver - August 28th, 2009 at 09:36
Orr’s games played in 2009: 20 at 2B; 58 at 3B; 45 at SS; and 2 in OF
#10 by JayB - August 28th, 2009 at 09:41
Brian,
Why Orr? Where will he play? What future does he have with Nats? Ian D was the move or an OF……Orr sounds like Stan really means he is going to do whatever he can NOT to get that first pick. Would not be surprised if we see More Livo type pick ups for the rest of the year. We seem to be getting older and we were not that young to start.
#11 by Brian Oliver - August 28th, 2009 at 09:43
JayB – My guess? With Harris moving to the CF role more or less full-time, the Nationals wanted Orr to fill Harris’ utility IF/OF role. He can play 2B, 3B, and SS and has played CF and RF in 2008.
#12 by Ronny/Daggerrrrrr - August 28th, 2009 at 09:59
Brian, what’s the odds of the Nationals making Evan Bronson a starter and seeing what he can do there?
#13 by Roberto - August 28th, 2009 at 10:34
Brain: it seems that Meyers is this year’s 2007 Lannan, rising through the system. What do you think of him? What is his upside?
#14 by Sec 204 Row H Seat 7 - August 28th, 2009 at 10:49
Thanks for the info. on Orr. I think he spells Belliard at 2nd most times. Uh, JayB this is a bad thing? Brian (aka Brain–well deserved!), I too would like you take on Bronson and Meyers.
#15 by Brian Oliver - August 28th, 2009 at 11:05
re: Bronson … I would imagine it is a possibility though he seems to have flourished in his current role pretty well. He is a college senior so I would hope to see him in Potomac to start 2010
re: Meyers … That seems a fair comp, from the right side. He is never going to blow anyone away, relying more on control. I could see him as a #4 guy with maybe a #3 upside.
#16 by Jeff E. - August 28th, 2009 at 11:28
Rich harden claim by nats?????
#17 by John - August 28th, 2009 at 11:32
Jeff: Where did you see/hear that?
#18 by Brian Oliver - August 28th, 2009 at 11:33
Jeff – I’m guessing the Cubs pull him back
#19 by cjrugger - August 28th, 2009 at 11:58
All I see is that he was claimed, not neccesarily by us
#20 by JCA - August 28th, 2009 at 12:11
Fangraphs says minnesota made the claim. #16 Eric – please clarify – did you get info to that effect or were you asking Brian if he knew about a claim?
#21 by Brian Oliver - August 28th, 2009 at 12:14
JCA – The Twins also could have placed a claim but the Nationals would get first crack since it goes through NL before AL
#22 by JCA - August 28th, 2009 at 12:19
Thanks Brian. Nats get first crack, but Eric’s post was with a ton of “????” so I can’t tell if he’s asking you if you know something or he’s telling you with some incredulity indicated by the question marks.
#23 by premature90 - August 28th, 2009 at 12:48
Hey to all. Espinosa’s and Marrero’s numbers are almost identical (in Potomac). I find it pretty interesting. We definately have lots of interesting prospects. Bowden proved us that going for high ceiling HS players isn’t really a good idea. I prefer going College route and most of you realized it as well. Also, I’m noticing some talent coming from the DR, Perez-Jimenez-Sanchez are very young and intriguing.
#24 by DCNatsFan - August 28th, 2009 at 12:55
Detwiler sure has been a lightning rod for Nats fans over the past 18 months. But looking at his minor league stats over AA and AAA, he has had a damn fine year. What clouds the picture is his MLB numbers which was really just 3 or 4 starts (yes I realize this is out of a total of 10). Nice to see him progress as he is learning to pitch. Hopefully he can continue to finish this year strong and compete for a rotation spot in Spring Training. I also like what I see out of Meyers, Mandel, and Storen. Rizzo is accumlulating some nice depth throughout the system.
#25 by RT - August 28th, 2009 at 14:42
Just noticed that Meyers has only given up 1 homerun in 125+ innings of work this year. Thats pretty darn impressive! Is he a sinkerballer?
#26 by Tom D - August 28th, 2009 at 15:17
RT…have seen Myers pitch a few times this year. He throws a 4 seam fastball, 2 seam with nice movement and sink, a change up, slider. This year he developed a cutter that was taught to him by Paul Menhardt according to the PNATS radio announcers. He looked like the real deal on the two outings I saw him.
