Does anyone have an opinion on this kid Tyler Moore? Is he a legit 1st base prospect?

  2. #2 by cjrugger - July 17th, 2009 at 10:13

mjames- there was no scouting report on Moore on BA coming into the draft. He’s 22 (a little old) and played SEC baseball so he should be playing well at this level. I look at guys like him as guilty until they can prove it at a higher level

Can we please promote Josh Smoker, theres no reason he should be in the GCL

Looks like Hicks pitched well for 5IP, just had one bad inning

cj: I thought that Smoker was injured a while back. Could that be the reason he is still in the GCL?

cj, Josh is rehabbing from shoulder surgery to remove a bone spur. Have a little patience.

Ah didnt realize it was that serious, thought it was something minor

Please DO NOT promote Josh Smoker. The last thing we need to do is rush this kid AGAIN. I feel like we need to let him figure things out at the GCL level. Granted, he had a nice outing last night with a 1.00 WHIP in five innings. However, he only struck out three batters which is a little bit concerning for a player who should be dominating that level.

Agreed on Josh Smoker – let him ring out in GCL and have a nice fresh start in Vermont or Hagerstown next year. He’s doing well, but he ought to be fanning every batter at GCL by now.

Wow – first night back after the MLB all star game was just great. The big club and all of our minor league affiliates above Rookie ball lost.

    We are so screwed.

Scout friend of mine who has been covering Hagerstown told me that Storen is the real deal. Thought that would make a few here happy.

from what i’ve seen, Drew Storen can PITCH. At least at this level (low A) he’s dominant. I wish the Suns would pitch him more than just one inning. The team needs any help it can get.

“but he ought to be fanning every batter at GCL by now.”

He has pitched less than 50 professional innings before this year. What makes you think this?

  12. #12 by Steve - July 17th, 2009 at 18:10

I seem to remember reading somewhere that the plan is to make Storen a starter. Is this true?

Steve :I seem to remember reading somewhere that the plan is to make Storen a starter. Is this true?

I hope they keep him where he is now. Our club will need all the relief help we can get.

As for Monday’s starter, who does everyone think will get the nod? A bullpen arm? Collin Balester? J.D. Martin? Ross Detwiler?
