Will darn that’s a bummer for Norris, eh… Boy I was hoping to see him in Potomac, too…

Anyone know how another catching prospect, Adrian Nieto, is progressing? Coming into this year, he was among the top 20-25 Nats prospects, higher than Rooney.

Norris is improving, and he clearly has a future in the Major Leagues. That said, I think they are consciously taking it slow with all their prospects this year. Over the past few years they moved guys like Marrero, King and Burgess too quickly.
Norris is young. I assume he’ll be in Potomac next year, or even in August of this year. He is really talented. But he’s still learning the position, and pushing guys too far, too fast can damage their confidence. I’m not saying it would with Norris, but that being conservative is the right move with a player as good as him.

And I don’t think this is a reflection on Norris at all.

Perhaps, the Nats are starting to understand that defense is a key element of assessing a player’s value and readiness to advance. Prior to the season, the Nats paid no attention to the significance of defense in assembling a MLB roster, and they are a laughing-stock. The decision to keep Norris in H-town is a sign that the Nats are evaluating players on more than offensive numbers.

Norris will not be catching in the big leagues, unless there is a huge improvement on defense. What’s up with Nieto?

@DD: Nieto is in the GCL and is hitting under .200 so far. Remember though thats in only 50 at bats.
@Plichard: I think thats a good point about evaluating defense. There is a good chance that Norris could be out 1B of the future. Either way its good to have a prospect of that potential in our system.
