Today is the kick off of the international signing period. As I have previously mentioned, neither Ben Badler of Baseball America nor Jorge Arangure of ESPN are reporting the Nationals associated with any of the top names. I’ll keep an eye out for any releases, but I am assuming there will not be anything.
Syracuse did not play on Wednesday. Notes: The Chiefs will need to make roster space for both RHP Shairon Martis and OF Elijah Dukes, no word yet on those moves.

A bases loaded triple from 2B Dan Lyons led the P-Nats to an 8-4, twelve-inning won over Winston-Salem (box/gamer). Lyons finished the game 2/2 with two runs scored to go along with the eventual game-winning RBI. 1B Chris Marrero was 1/2 with a solo homer and CF Francisco PLasencia was 1/3 with a solo homer & two runs scored. LHP Tom Milone made a strong start for Potomac, allowing two runs on five hits over 7IP while striking out nine. LHP Atahualpa Severino gave up one run on three hits and two walks over 3IP while striking out three.

Vermont defeated Hudson Valley 8-2 on Wednesday (box). Rain delayed the start of the game and bumped 2009 3rd round pick, RHP Trevor Holder, from his professional debut. LHP Mitchell Clegg made the start in his place, giving up three hits over four shutout innings while striking out three. RHP Johan Figuereo pitched a scoreless inning of relief, striking out a pair. 3B Jack Walker (4/4 with two doubles) had four RBI and 2B Francisco Soriano (2/5 with a SB) had three RBI for the Monsters. RF J.R. Higley was 3/4 with a run scored and DH Brian Pruitt was 2/5 with a run & RBI.

The GCL Nationals held the GCL Mets to only two hits in a 3-1 win (box). LHP Chad Jenkins made the start, allowing a run on two hits and two walks over 3IP while striking out five. LHP Bobby Hansen walked one and struck out two over two no-hit/shutout innings of relief for the win. RHP Taylor Jordan struck out three over three perfect innings of relief. And, RHP Wilson Eusebio picked up the save, striking out two over an inning of relief. LF Destin Hood was 1/4 with a double, RBI & run scored; CA Adrian Nieto was 0/2 with two walks & one RBI; SS Adrian Sanchez was 1/2 with a stolen base; and CF Eury Perez was 0/2 with two walks & a run scored. The rehabbing Jesus Valdez was 1/2 with a run scored.

The DSL Nationals fell to the DSL Twins 5-1 (box). 18-year old RHP Pedro Encarnacion allowed three runs on seven hits and a walk over 3 2/3IP. 20-year old LHP Raudy Almonte gave up two runs on two hits and a walk over 2 2/3IP with four strikeouts. 20-year old DH Elvin Rodriguez was 1/3 with a double, stolen base & RBI; 19-year old LF Alejandro Hodge was 1/4 with a his 13th SB; 17-year old 3B Estarlin Martinez was 0/4 with a stolen base & run scored; and 23-year old SS Carlos Alvarez was 1/4.

Game notes for Vermont have Holder skipped over today. Perhaps this weeekend?

With SYR having to move two players (for Dukes/Morse/Martis), Maybe Yepez goes down to HAR (or lower), & either Larrison or Doyne catches a DL-7? There are going to be “ripples” in the minor-league pool, regardless.
