Syracuse fell 5-4 in fourteen innings to Pawtucket (box/gamer). CF Justin Maxwell was 3/7 with a triple, solo homer, stolen base & two RBI; CF Corey Patterson was 2/7 with a double, solo homer, & two RBI; 3B/1B Kory Casto was 2/6; and SS Pete Orr was 3/4 with a run and two stolen base. RHP J.D. Martin started for the Chiefs, allowing five runs (one earned) on four hits while striking out six. The Syracuse bullpen was solid, holding the PawSox to five hits and four walks over eight total innings with eight strikeouts. RHP Cory Doyne threw two scoreless innings, striking out two; RHP Saul Rivera allowed a hit and walk over two scoreless innings with three strikeouts. RHP Jason Bergmann took the loss allowing a run on one hit and a walk.

Harrisburg completed a five game sweep of Erie with a walk-off 6-5 win (box/gamer). CF Mike Daniel (1/6) had the game-winning single in the bottom of the eleventh. #B Joel Guzman was 2/5 with a solo homer; 1B Bill Rhinehart was 1/5 with a solo homer; RF Edgardo Baez was 1/3 with a solo homer; and DH Marvin Lowrance was 2/5 with a double & RBI. RHP Luis Atilano made the start allowing three runs (two earned) on eight hits over 6IP with seven strikeouts. RHP Clint Everts walked four over two innings of work, allowing a run on two hits with three strikeouts. And, RHP Josh Wilkie picked up the win with two scoreless innings of relief, giving up one hit and striking out one.

The P-Nats rode another strong start from RHP Brad Meyers and homers from 1B Chris Marrero and RF Michael Burgess to 6-2 victory over Winston-Salem (box/gamer). Meyers moved to 5-2 on the season holding the Dash to five hits over seven shutout innings, striking out six. Marrero was 3/5 with a double & two-run homer; Burgess was 2/4 with a double, sole homer & two RBI; SS Danny Espinosa was 2/5 with a double, stolen base & run scored; and DH Brian Peacock was 2/4 with a double, stolen base & run scored.

Hagerstown LHP Patrick McCoy was battered for nine runs on twelve hits over 5 2/3IP in a 9-6 loss to Lake County (box/gamer). 1B Tyler Moore was 3/5 with a double, homer & two RBI; 3B James Keithley (subbing for an injured Steven Souza [leg]) was 3/4 with a run & RBI; RF Charlie Fermaint was 2/5 with a double; DH Robby Jacobsen was 2/5; 2B Stephen Lombardozzi was 1/5 with a double, run & RBI; and CA Derek Norris was 1/3 with a run scored.

Today: Kannapolis RHP Steve Sauer (3-2, 3.08) at Hagerstown LHP Ricardo Pecina (0-1, 4.03) 7:05PM

An error by SS Dani Arias led to four unearned runs in Vermont’s 4-3 loss to Tri-City (box/gamer). LHP Jack McGeary made his second start for the Monsters, allowing two unearned runs on three hits and four walks over 5 1/3IP with two strikeouts. LF J.P. Ramirez was 2/4 with a double & two RBI; DH Justin Bloxom was 1/4 with a solo homer; and CF Jay Sferra was 2/2 with a run scored.

The GCL Nationals fell 2-1 in a rain-shortened game with the GCL Cardinals (box). LF Destin Hood was 1/2 with one RBI. The rehabbing Lastings Milledge was 0/2 with a walk & stolen base and Dmitri Young was 1/2 witha  run scored. Rehabbing RHP Hassan Pena made the start, giving up two runs (one earned) on four hhits and two walks over 4IP.

Today: GCL Astros at GCL Nationals RHP Julio Perez (0-0, 0.00) 12PM

The DSL Nationals were blanked 3-0 by the DSL Reds (box). 20-year old 2B Wily Hiraldo and 23-year old SS Carlos Alvarez had the only hits (both singles) for the DSL Nats. 21-year old RHP Manuel Rivera made the start, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks over 5IP with three strikeouts.

    Marrero’s power stroke is coming back around.

    This run by Meyers is interesting and encouraging. Same with J.D. Martin.

    If we’ve tweaked anything with McGeary, please undo it so he stops walking everybody.

    I’m not bullish on Maxwell, but he’s been on a nice tear.

    All of these players have last names starting with M.
