How about my man Destin Hoood!
#2 by cjrugger - June 25th, 2009 at 08:34
wow, Destin is ready to go. I can only imagine how much theyve been looking forward to that game
Maxwell is making a case for big league playing time

Also, De La Rosa’a K #’s continue to be outstanding. I know he’s small, but he seems to have a very live arm.

4 BB for McGeary in his first game since being demoted.
:sigh:
That’s 49 BB in 69.2 IP. At what age do most HS draftees ‘get it together’? McGeary just turned 20 3 months ago, so he should have a lot more time to get it together, right? Right!??!!
Does anyone know the average age for the NYP league? 18/19? 19/20?

:GULP:
17/18 maybe???

When will Seth Bynum get his chance? I am tired of seeing the seemingly lethargic Belliard strike out in a critical situation.

Sept call-ups if today??? Desmond, Bynum and Martin besides other considerations or would call-up money be allocated for Strasborg?
#8 by sportsfan882 - June 25th, 2009 at 10:38
Bynum is a complete disaster defensively. no thanks.

Gavin: McGeary is 20, but you need to remember that his development time has been sporadic, based on his attending Stanford during the school year. He’s going to need to consistently work with the minor league instructors before any decision can be made regarding whether or not he’s a bust. When does he graduate anyway? Anyone know this?

Olsen is disappointing. nats signed k him, expecting him to be a major part of the big league rotation. McGeary is disappointing. He is back in short season ball when he should be impressing in full season A. He was supposed to be something special.
#11 by Berndaddy - June 25th, 2009 at 12:45
dd – Detwiler wasn’t supposed to be in A+ for two years and he figured it out. I’m more worried about Willems than McGeary.

TimDz:
Judging from Brian’s interview with him back in March, it seems he’s on pace to graduate March 2011.

Destin Hood!! Hopefully he can keep whacking the ball through this season and the Arizona League, than Double AA by this time next year (I have high hopes for him I know). If Maxwell can keep doing it, than maybe (as was suggest over at NJ), Williamham in left, Maxwell in center, Dunn at and learning 1st (with Nick traded, sad but neccessary). I am worried about McGeary. I will worry about Willems after he compiles a record for this season.

NYP avg age is likely 21-23. That league is mostly college players with a few high schoolers sprinkled in, depending on the organization. I was in the Pioneer League which is “technically” a rookie league compared to the Short Season A of the NYP and it was 20-23 seven years ago, which I would guess, means it’s even older now.

I had forgotten what a talent Yuery Perez is – hitting for average plus speed. I see Destin Hood and Yuery doing to Vermont soon, to finish the year.
#16 by Freda - June 25th, 2009 at 15:25
Average age of the Lake Monsters this season is 21.581
#17 by Nationals Fan - June 25th, 2009 at 16:13
The season is ONE DAY OLD and you want to promote someone “SOON”!!?? The develpment of high school players is usually a long slow process, and trying to speed up this process usually creates develpmental problems that cannot be corrected without patiently repeating the necessary steps. The much more mature college guys can handle a quicker movement through the system, but even with them speed of movement through the system can create problems. Many of the clubs push their big money first rounders very quickly, but more often than not it is a disaster, especially for positions players. The problem is that we tend to only remember the ones that succeed, and then forget that their rate of develpment is not the NORM.

Looks like J. Walker’s 1st week in professional ball was less than good in VT; 5 errors in 4 games at 3B.
#19 by RD - June 25th, 2009 at 21:56
I wouldn’t expect Hood to hit AA for two years.
He was drafted as a raw talent, and the organization is taking it slow(and rightfully so). He won’t even hit Potomac by this time next year. He may get a taste in Vermont this year, but expect him back in Vermont this time next year. If he exceeds expectations he might head to Hagerstown, but Harrisburg isn’t even a consideration yet.

I don’t see ay reason to hold Hood back at GCL rookie league if he tears it up. I see him in Vermont to finish the year, Hagerstown next year, Potomac in 2011, then 2012 Harrisburg & Syracuse. If Hood makes it to the bigs, it probably won’t be before 2013.
