Arnesen Promoted to Harrisburg

Confirming what had been mentioned earlier in the comments, the Nationals promoted RHP Erik Arnesen from Potomac to Harriburg.

From the release:

The 25-year-old right-hander was the winning pitcher in Potomac’s deciding game of the Mills Cup Championship against Myrtle Beach last September and was the P-Nats’ Opening Day starter for the 2009 season. In six starts for Manager Trent Jewett’s ballclub, Arnesen went 4-1 with 2.23 ERA with 23 strikeouts compared to just seven walks in 32.1 innings pitched. At the time of his promotion, the Princeton, New Jersey native ranked third in the Carolina League in both ERA and innings pitched while pacing the P-Nats’ pitching staff with his four victories on the season. He also matched a career-high by fanning eight Winston-Salem Dash hitters in his April 21 start – a game won by Potomac 3-2.

No word on (1) who comes off of the Harrisburg roster, (2) who replaces him in Potomac, and (3) who takes his spot in the starting rotation.

Nice. This stretch of starts is the best he’s ever looked, and getting better. Isee no reason to hold him back any longer in Harrisburg…(I thought I’d never say that).

Luis Atilano was place on the DL retroactive to 5/8.

As for Detwiler, he looked the last two starts, but two starts doesn’t mean he’s ready for the next level just yet.

Detwiler has looked good all season. Statistics and box scores don’t always tell the whole story of a game.

When are you going to quit beating up on him for Bowden’s unrealistic propaganda?

    Luis Atilano, get well soon!!

Regarding Detwiler, I suggest readers examine the local paper website’s sports section (http://www.pennlive.com/senators/) as well as their blog (http://blog.pennlive.com/patriotnewssports/harrisburg_senators/) for a real understanding of how little fielding support he has recieved. The paper describes the “official” errors as well as the “un-official” errors - those plays where errors occurred but the official scorer saw it differently. Detwiler is doing great.

i’m not going by statistics at all by the way, I’ve watched all of his starts. At this point, there is no reason to rush him upward and onward. If he continues pitching the way he has he’ll get moved sometime this season, at least that’s my guess.

I’m with Terry on this, let’s let the league have their 2nd look at Detwiler before rushing him up to AAA. Under Bowden/Boone, there has been an abundance of premature promotions. Let Detwiler prove himself for an extended period of time.

Besides, AA is for prospects, AAA for retreads. I would keep him at H-burg all year, for stability and confidence building. Next year, if successful all year, give him a shot at the Nats rotation.

Vladi & Terry I’d go one further, they should keep him there all year and if he’s had the banner year for the Senators he should get his real cup of coffee in September and a shot at the roster next spring. BTW I’m beginning to think they shouldn’t call up Strasburg in Sept. but hold him off until the spring. Give his arm a rest.

Travis Reagan has been activated off the 7-day DL, bringing the PNats roster back up to 25
