The Chiefs game with the Yankees was postponed by rain.

Tonight: Syracuse RHPs Marco Estrada (3-1, 4.01) & Jorge Sosa (0-1, 5.73) at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre LHP Kei Igawa (5-1, 3.39) & RHP Romulo Sanchez (1-0, 4.15) at 5:35PM

For the second straight game Harrisburg blanked New Hampsire, this time 4-0 behind the pitching of RHP Zack Segovia and two relievers (box/gamer). Segovia made the start in place of scheduled starter Adrian Alaniz (no reason for why he was scratched). Over four innings, Segovia scattered seven hits and a walk while striking out two. RHP Andrew Kown pitched three hitless innings of relief striking out four to earn the win and LHP Dave Williams struck out two over the final two hitless innings. SS Michale Martinez was 2/3 with a double, run & RBI; 2B Ofilio Castro was 1/4 with a double, run & two rbi; and 1B Matt Whitney was 1/3 with a double and run scored.

Today: New Hampshire LHP Marc Rzepczynski (6-5, 3.81) at Harrisburg LHP Justin Jones (2-7, 5.72) at 12PM

Potomac got solid relief pitching and used two bases loaded walks to defeat Salem 2-1, sweeping the series with the Red Sox (box/gamer). RHP Brade Meyers allowed a run on five hits over 5 2/3 innings but did walk four batters. RHP Clint Everts picked up the win in relief, giving up a hit and striking out one over 1 1/3 innings. RHP Chris Rivera struck out a pair in his lone inning of work and RHP Cole Kimball earned his fourth save of the season with a scoreless ninth, striking out two. 3B Tim Pahuta and LF Francisco Plasencia drew bases loaded walks account for both P-Nats RBI. DH Sean Rooney was 2/3 with a double and 3B/SS Stephen King was 2/3 with a double and stolen base.

Tonight: Myrtle Beach (pitcher TBD) at Potomac RHP Colton Willems (1-4, 7.36) at 7:05PM

The Suns game with Lake County was suspended by rain in the bottom of the fourth inning with the score tied at 1-1 (box). The game will be concluded at 5:30PM today followed by the regularly scheduled game (which will only be seven innings). RHP Terrence Engles made only a brief one-inning appearance, allowing a run on one hit and two walks. The reason is he is scheduled to make the start for Potomac on Saturday in one of the games in their doubleheader. LHP Pat McCoy took over for Hagerstown, allowing two hits over three scoreless innings while stiking out four. The Suns scored their run on a triple by 3B Steven Souza followed by a RBI single by LF Charlie Fermaint.

Tonight: No word on who will start in the resumed game but in game two, Lake County will start LHP T.J. House (1-5, 3.10), while Hagerstown counters with RHP Brad Peacock (1-4, 4.50)

The DSL Nationals blanked the DSL Reds 7-0 behind a strong start from 17-year old RHP Danubio Gonzalez (box). Gonzalez allowed two hits and one walk over five innings while striking out two to pick up the win. 19-year old RHP Yunior de la Rosa pitched 1 2/3 shutout innings of relief, allowing one hit and striking out two. 20-year old 2B Wily Hiraldo was 2/3 with two stolen bases and two runs scored. 19-year old DH Alejandro Hodge was 1/2 with two walks, one RBI, two runs and two stolen bases. 20-year old CA Anderson Bocio was 2/4 with a double and run scored. And, 23-year old Carlos Alvarez was 1/4 with a home run and two RBI.

Today: DSL Rockies at DSL Nationals at 10:30AM

I was in Viera on Saturday and stopped by practice. They said Smoker was home on vacation. Apparently, everyone at camp was sent home this week for vacation prior to the start of short-season ball. If I understood correctly, Smoker was sent home a week early, possibly because he needed the rest, and was coming back this week while everyone was away to resume his throwing program. I don’t think he will show up in Vermont right away but wasn’t specifically told that. To make a long story short, Smoker is still on the mend, it appears.

    Brian-

Just curious, are you going to do that mock draft you had mentioned a few weeks back? Draft is Tuesday and I cannot wait, like a kid on Christmas-

Ryan – I did not get enough folks wanting to participate so I tabled it. I really need five or six total people (with 30 teams)

    Brian,

What is going on with Marcus Jones? He got off to a slow start for H-town, went on the DL and has not returned. Did he suffer a long term injury or did the Nats send him to extended Spring Training with the idea of having him play in Vermont when that league starts?

Alaniz was scratched because of the same nagging injury (oblique, I believe) that yanked him from his last start. I think he’s expected to make his next one.
