Below are the hitting and pitching highlights for the games played in the month of May (here are the complete May statistics) …

SYRACUSE

  • The Chiefs were 11-19 in May, batting 252/308/375 with 26 homers and 108 RBI. The pitchers had a combined ERA of 4.02 and WHIP of 1.43 over 260IP with 198 strikeouts, 90 walks and an opponent’s BA of 280.
  • Hitting highlight: 1B/DH Brad Eldred hit 327/369/606 with 6 homers and 18RBI … playing in all 29 games. Honorable mention to OFs Jorge Padilla (382/440/471) and Corey Patterson (303/354/526 with 5 homers and 13 RBI).
  • Pitching highlights: RHSP J.D. Martin and RHRP Tyler Clippard. Martin was 3-2 with a 2.41 ERA and 0.83 WHIP over six starts (33 2/3IP) with 29 strikeouts, only 3 walks, and an OppBA of 208. Clippard continued his solid performance out of the pen with a 1.50 ERA and 1.11 WHIP over 10 appearanced (18IP), striking out seventeen, but walking nine.

HARRISBURG

  • Harrisburg improved on their horrid 2-16 April but still finished with just an 11-17 record in May. Offensively, they hit 253/324/389 with 22 homers, 99RBI and 109 runs scored over the 28 games. The pitching had a combined ERA od 4.51 and WHIP of 1.50 over 237 1/3 IP with 182 strikeouts, 81 walks and an OppBA of 294. 
  • Hitting highlight: OF Mike Daniel. Daniel batted 271/340/447 over 25 games with nine extra-base hits (including four triples) and 16 RBI. Honorable mention to OF Edgardo Baez (307/388/373) and CA Jhonathan Solano (294/321/451) 
  • Pitching highlights: RHSP Erik Arnesen and RHRP Josh Wilkie. Arnesen joined the Senators early in May and provided 25 solid innings over five appearances (four starts). He finished the month 2-2 with a 3.60 ERA and 1.28 WHIP with 23 strikeouts, six walks and an OppBA of 277. Wilkie was 1-0 with a 2.51 ERA and 1.67 WHIP over nine appearances (14 1/3IP) with 13 strikeouts, nine walks and a 263 OppBA.

POTOMAC

  • Potomac had a solid May, finishing 15-11 though their offense lagged a bit. The P-Nats hit 238/321/381 as a team with 24 homers, 90 RBI and 99 runs scored over the 26 games. Their pitching was their highlight as the team has an ERA of 3.26 and WHIP of 1.25 over 223 1/3IP with 171 strikeouts and 78 walks.
  • Hitting highlight: CA Sean Rooney. Rooney hit 344/400/594 over 19 games for the P-Nats with 2 homers and 12 RBI. Honorable mention to 1B Chris Marrero who hit 286/311/418 with 3 homers and 17 RBI
  • Pitching highlights: RHSP Jeff Mandel and RHRP Clint Everts. Mandel was 4-1 in May with a 3.26 ERA and 1.09 WHIP over five appearances, striking out just twelve over 30 1/3IP with an OppBA of 181. Everts has taken well to the bullpen, finishing May 2-0 with 2 saves over 8 appearances (12 1/3IP). His ERA for the month was 0.73 and his WHIP was 1.05 with 19 strikeouts, 4 walks, and an OppBA of 179. Honorable mention to RHSP Brad Meyers (1-2 1.55 ERA 25K/29IP) and LHSP Tom Milone (2-0 2.03 ERA 215OppBA)

HAGERSTOWN

  • Hagerstown finished May above 0.500 at 15-14. The Suns collectively hit 263/336/367 with 16 homers, 110 RBI and 130 runs scored over 29 games. The pitching had a team ERA of 4.48 and WHIP of 1.39 over 253IP with 235 strikeouts, 81 walks, and an OppBA of 274. 
  • Hitting highlight: CA Derek Norris. Norris swung a red hot bat, hitting 370/444/690 over 28 games with 8 homers and 29 RBI. He led the Suns in hits, runs, doubles, homers, RBI and walks in May. Honorable mention could go to any of five players … OF Chris Curran (293/343/402 with 7XBH and 6/7SB), 2B Stephen Lombardozzi (327/417/413 with 1 HR and 11RBI), 1B Tyler Moore (340/396/489 with 3 homers and 25 RBI), SS Jose Lozada (301/347/376), or 3B Steve Souza (282/361/388).
  • Pitching highlights: RHSP Marcos Frias and RHRP Justin Phillabaum. Frias was 2-0 over his five May appearances with a 2.08 ERA and 1.12 WHIP over 26IP with 28 strikeouts, 5 walks, and an OppBA of 235. Phillabaum made seve May appearances (18IP) with a 2.50ERA and 1.06WHIP, striking out nineteen and walking four with an OppBA of 211.
