Potomac on to the Finals

For the third straight game, Potomac and Wilmington played a nailbiter. And for the third straight game, the P-Nats held won a game by one run with a 1-0 shutout sending the P-Nats to the Carolina League Championship series (box). Potomac managed only two hits on offense, a double by RF Michael Burgess and single by CF Boomer Whiting, but like in the past two games, Potomac did just enough to get a run across as a sacrifice fly by Whiting scored Burgess with the only run in the third inning. Unlike the past two games, the Potomac pitching was spotty. LHP Ross Detwiler allowed only two hits but walked five in 5 1/3IP pitching into an out of trouble in the first, second and sixth innings. LHP Atahualpa Severino pitched out of Detwiler’s jam. RHP Osvaldo Rodriguez was shaky in his 2/3 of an inning but at the end RHP Josh Wilkie came on and retired all four batters he faced to send the P-Nats to the Mills Cup to face the winner of the Myrtle Beach/Winston-Salem series.

UPDATE

The Potomac Nationals will make the first trip to the Carolina League Championship Series in franchise history since 1989 on Monday as the P-Nats will take on either the Myrtle Beach Pelicans or the Winston-Salem Warthogs in a best-of-five series beginning in the Southern Division city on Monday night. The Mills Cup Finals will return to Pfitzner Stadium on Thursday, September 11, for Game 3 beginning at 7:05 p.m. Games four and five if needed would also be at the Pfitz with both starting at 7:05 p.m.

Fantastic. It would be great to make it to one of those games.

It would be great if more people game to the games. The two games played at home were great baseball. It’s a shame more people didn’t come to see them.

To all you Nats fans out there – come see the future. Cheer for the Nats winners! Seats are only $12 and there are no bad seats. See the game up close and personal. Next game is scheduled for Thursday. Go to http://www.potomacnationals.com to purchase tickets.

I give Knorr and Tomlin a lot of credit for the wins with the way they managed the pitching staff. Patched together bullpen yields 1 run (1HR) in 16+ IP! P-Nats played excellent baseball in the series and responded in the clutch when required. I was proud of them.

And there’s no conflict with a mediocre football team with a racist moniker, either!
