Senators Weekend Recap

June 11th, 2007 Brian Oliver

The Harrisburg Senators took two of three games from the Altoona Curve this weekend, losing the first game 6-4 (box/gamer) before winning games both Saturday 9-6 (box/gamer) and Sunday 12-4 (box/gamer). The Senators made a few roster moves this weekend, receiving IF Seth Bynum from Potomac and releasing IF Juan Melo. They acquired catcher Javi Herrera from Akron and sent catcher Brett Logan to Short Season Vermont. OF Sheldon Fulse was sent down to Class A Hagerstown and RHP Josh Perrault to Class A Potomac to make room for OF Dee Brown from Potomac and RHP Dan Kolb from Class AAA Columbus.

Former Senators starter Kip Bouknight held off spot starter Dan Foli and Harrisburg on Friday night. It was a tough night across the board for the Senators pitcher as their control abandoned them allowing as many walks as hits (nine). The highlight on offense was first baseman Steve Mortimer who hit his first two home runs for Harrisburg, driving in three of the four Senators runs.

The Senators trailed late 6-1 before scoring the eigh unanswered runs on their way to the win. Catcher John Suomi had a seventh inning three-run home run and right fielder Cristian Guerrero and left fielder Tony Blanco each had two RBI.

Injured Nationals starting pitcher Mike O’Connor made his first rehab start for Harrisburg. He was limited to approximately 50 pitches which let him go three innings allowing one run on two hits while striking out three. Regularly scheduled starter John Lannan relieved, picking up the victory with five innings surrendering three runs on six hits. There was plenty of offense to go around with four Senators collecting two hits, four scoring two runs and six with at least one RBI. Left fielder Tony Blanco led the way with two hits, two runs, and three RBI.

Looks like Jerome Williams will do a rehab tonight, June 12. Do you know if it will be in first or second game of DH? We have tix, and will show up at 6 if Williams starts.
