Brian, Martin Beno will be opening the season in Potomac, I didn’t see his name on your list above.
#2 by cjrugger - April 5th, 2010 at 14:38
Wow, Eury Perez makes the Suns. good for him, hope it was warranted. They also either have a rotation full of future big leagures, or soon to be busts. And whats the starting OF- Ramirez, Perez, Hood?
#3 by Ric - April 5th, 2010 at 14:58
Pitchers who I’m surprised to see unassigned: Brad Meyers, AJ Morris, Nathan Karns, Jordan Taylor, Juan Jaime, Will Atwood and Ryan Mattheus — all in extended spring rehabilitating injuries? Or other explanations?
Also, what’s Higley’s injury?
Thanks.
#4 by Ric - April 5th, 2010 at 15:03
One more question — lots of the pitchers in Hagerstown have started in the past. Do you know who are the starters and who’s in the pen?
#5 by mcgalinmd - April 5th, 2010 at 15:29
Oh please…Souza in Hagerstown. :o( I’ll stop there.
Does anyone know where Chris Curran has ended up? He’s awesome.
#6 by Beisbol - April 5th, 2010 at 15:37
Ric: Juan Jaime is supposed to be starting in Potomac. As for the others I don’t know the deal with them
#7 by Beisbol - April 5th, 2010 at 15:42
What about Carlos Martinez? Carlos Peralta? Were they both released?
#8 by Brian Oliver - April 5th, 2010 at 15:47
Beisbol – That’s the next step. I have a slew of names to check on.

Brad Meyers is still in Florida. not quite back after foot surgery in the off-season. Should be up soon
#17 by BinM - April 5th, 2010 at 19:23
@Sue Dinem: Yes, there are a lot of repeaters at POT, but guys like Lehman, Bronson, Lombardozzi, Moore & Norris could be worth the price of a few tickets.
#18 by peric - April 5th, 2010 at 19:44
Sue Dinem, Pat Lehman is your pal Siekel’s other sleeper. The other is Nathan Karns TBD where he goes?
#19 by Souldrummer - April 6th, 2010 at 01:10
I don’t see any outfielder in Syracuse that justifies not making Dukes an everyday outfielder in Syracuse until you can trade him. Isn’t that what we did with Milledge last year when he became a headache? We stashed him in Syracuse and turned him into an asset with some of our young pitching. Why couldn’t we have done the same with Dukes?
#20 by Sue Dinem - April 6th, 2010 at 07:23
@BinM – I’m less disappointed in the repeat players than in the repeat pattern of so many 25-year-old players:
2006 – Five 2007 – Eight 2008 – Six 2009 – Ten 2010 – Eight on the Opening Day Roster (Counting guys that were in the top half of PAs or IPs)
@Peric – I’d guess Vermont on Karns, especially given the command concerns, which are probably being addressed in Extended Spring.
#21 by cjrugger - April 6th, 2010 at 07:31
Thanks Jake- Is Colt being moved to the pen, or is it just a numbers game?
#22 by Jane - April 6th, 2010 at 07:45
Thanks for the rosters!!!!!!!!!!!!
#23 by Hendo - April 6th, 2010 at 10:19
Thanks a million for the rosters, Brian.
I see where A. J. Morris is on the DL according to the P-Nats’ press release. Wonder what’s up with that?
#24 by Sue Dinem - April 6th, 2010 at 10:24
Hellenic flu, most likely.
#25 by Toast - April 6th, 2010 at 11:15
Also where is Dan Leatherman? I heard Wil Atwood retired during the offseason? AJ is having minor arm soreness I hear.
#26 by peric - April 6th, 2010 at 12:36
@Sue Dinem,
I kind of figured either in Vermont or GCL after extended spring training. Still I kind of wonder if the Karns doesn’t pitch better than MacDougal? I note that Holder is a starter with Hagerstown.
With all the names (mostly extra arms) that have to go somewhere perhaps the Nats need another minor league affiliate?
#27 by DJ - April 6th, 2010 at 13:39
Kind of disappointed that Burgess and Norris aren’t in AA to start the year, but I guess no need to rush them or put them in an uncomfortable position if the FO thinks they are not ready.
All the other slots sound just about right. Where will Taylor Jordan start off at?
#28 by cjrugger - April 6th, 2010 at 14:27
peric- I dont think we need another affiliate, I’m guessing all organizations have this same problem. Hopefully soon these surplus guys will be prospects, instead of just filler
Dj- Disagree on Burgess, he had 135K’s and hit 235. He’s 21 until October so I see no reason to promote, hes still young for the league
#29 by Markfd - April 6th, 2010 at 14:58
Eric Duncan!? When did we pick him up!?
#30 by MiLB Fan - April 6th, 2010 at 15:29
Toast – Leatherman is in extended.
#31 by peric - April 6th, 2010 at 17:51
@markfd I think that’s “Chris Duncan” not “Eric Duncan”? Hopefully he will play some right field. Lord knows they could use him if he can get his swing back and his fielding.
#32 by Pilchard - April 6th, 2010 at 18:03
If Burgess dominates CL pitching (a big IF), he would get promoted quickly. The pace of Norris’ development is more a function of his defense than his offense. His bat may be AA ready, but Norris needs to bring his glove to the same level.
#33 by BinM - April 6th, 2010 at 19:25
I could be wrong, but this might be the first year that the high minors holds more system-signed players than ‘plug-in’ free agents. Looking up & down the rosters, the bulk of players are either MTL/WSH draftees, IFA’s, or UFA’s initially signed by the orginization. Even SYR has 11 of 24 rostered players who came into pro ball with this franchise.
The orchard may be close to bearing fruit – It might be a small crop this year, but holds promise for the future.

Rotation for Harrisburg: Mandel, Thompson, Milone, Strasburg, Chico
http://blog.pennlive.com/patriotnewssports/2010/04/harrisburg_senators_starting_r.html
I wonder, though, if a game is rained out in the first round through, will they change the rotation or skip that starters first start?
#35 by jeff e. - April 7th, 2010 at 02:52
all eyes on Smoaker and McGeary!
#36 by Positively Half St. - April 7th, 2010 at 05:08
I’m glad someone else noticed “Eric Duncan” instead of “Chris Duncan”. I don’t want him to get lost in the sauce. If he can hit again, then he is a real asset for the organization.
#37 by Sue Dinem - April 7th, 2010 at 08:56
Cass — It’s my belief that the Nationals have set up the rotation to prevent Strasburg from starting a minor-league road game in Virginia or Maryland during the months of April and May. Rain tonight won’t push everybody back a day, it’ll most likely bounce Milone from Saturday to Monday, Chico from Monday to Tuesday.

Marvin Lowrance must be nursing an injury. speaking of switch-hitting catchers besides B. Harper. MINN Gophers have a kid whose last name cannot spell at this moment on the other side of the globe. He plays a good RF also.
#39 by Pilchard - April 7th, 2010 at 11:52
Has any team picked up Dukes?
Would think that someone would take a flyer on Dukes and put him in AAA as an insurance policy or is he so toxic that no MLB team even wants him in their system?
Hard to argue with the Nats logic if none of the other 29 teams felt he was worth even a minor league deal.
#40 by cjrugger - April 7th, 2010 at 13:23
Havent even heard a whisper on Dukes
puts to bed the notion that we should have traded him instead
#41 by peric - April 7th, 2010 at 14:20
Agree with BinM. Appears to be the case, but more specifically pitching-wise as opposed to position players.
#42 by Jordan - April 7th, 2010 at 14:21
Hagerstwon outfield is toooolsy. Anyone think one of the outfielders will have a breakout season?
#43 by Jeff E. - April 7th, 2010 at 15:35
Brian, Carlsberg export is a good beer! I will not write again until after the MLB draft. Here is who I will keep my eyes on. Colin B, the Concord (Ca. ) kid @ Potomac named Nickolas, Smoaker and McGeaRY. Could Purdue University pull off in the Big ten what Indiana Univ. surprised in Big ten tourney with late season development out of their 1 and two guys. Morgan pitched a good game against MINN last weekend and their number one guy is piling up strikes like the Nats Elvis @ HARR right now…Sue BIN. I have logged more auto miles and body miles than you could ever imagine as a baseball fan…so…you get my drift, Brian……we all know that with different fortune the teaM WHICH ARRIVED in DC in a moving van could have come with the legacy of at least two World Series and the number of divsion championships that the red Sox now boast about….give me credit..I do no call anybody by the name of a woman’s shopping list entry! follow, Brian???? LOL!!!
#44 by Steveospeak - April 7th, 2010 at 15:47
Outside of Harrisburg, Hagerstown is the roster I’m most excited to follow this season, and I may even need to go to a couple of games. There is a lot of potential there and some of our former top prospects. Hopefully they can turn it around.
Probably the guy i’m most interested in seeing is Holder. I thought he was an over draft this summer so I’m hoping he will prove me wrong.
If any Nats fans are interested and you are in the DMV area we are doing a raffle over at Fanspeak.com for anyone who signs up by Friday for an account. The winner will get 4 free Nats tickets to a game later this month. http://fanspeak.com/register

rosco: Towards the end of what? An extended Spring training game? Thanks for the info.
#47 by rosco - April 8th, 2010 at 22:20
John : Meant to say the last week of spring training. I do not think Extended has begun yet.

Why did Will Atwood retire? Why is Austin Garrett on the DL?
