Minor League Transactions

Baseball America has their weekly Minor League Transactions up.I am just going to highlight the new moves

  • Signed: 3B Luis Ordaz
  • Released: LHP Jeff Ridgway & OF Charlie Fermaint

The 34-year old Ordaz did not play in the minors in 2009. My guess is he’s going to Syracuse as an IF option off the bench.

Ridgway was signed this off-season as a minor league free agent. I’m guessing it was just a numbers game. Fermaint was signed as a minor league free agent during the 2009 season and bounced around Hagerstown and Harrisburg, primarily as an organizational type guy.

    Brian,

Any insight on where guys will end up to start the season? I have heard there is some movement and maybe some surprises.

There seems to be a lull in certain positions in the upper minors where a new crop of guys join the depth especially in R/R outfielders. At the majors now- one has to be an astute crosschecker to have a feel for who fits your club outside the box…the next wave of R/R outfielders or middle infielders or utility guys. lets pray that Maxwell’s body and “light bulb” turn on 100% this year.

You and your readers may be aware of this already, but I just stumbled on a new P-Nats blog, written by their new broadcaster, Will Flemming. His most recent piece features a talk with Doug Harris regarding player development.
