I sure would like that to matter. The Nats need to look at Type A free agents. This is especially true if the team is not going to worry so much about signability at slot prices after the first round. Surely, Bryce Harper will cost more than all draft picks previous except maybe Strasburg, so I can see the Nats being timid, whether to please Ted Lerner or Bud Selig.

I meant especially if the Nats ARE going to worry about signability after the first round.

Completely off topic for this post; but nevertheless wanted to share.

randomly browsing, and came across this:

Happy memories! Any Harrisburg fans about that remember the team 16 years ago? (or, dare I mention it, their major league parent 15 years ago?)

Hey Brian, i’m just wondering, is it official that Harper is enlisted in JuCo and will be available for next year’s draft ? Also with the tie breaker, the Nats are really 7 games back of KC ?

College of Southern Nevada opens their fall season on Friday, should make a nice interlude between the end of the Nats season and the start of AFL.

Gil – The GA column is based off of the actual standings while the Tragic column is the number to watch for draft order. The Nats are 6 games behind the Royals but with the tiebreaker in the Nats favor, the Tragic Number is 18

Another pair of notes on Harper, first he is listed as an IF/CA on the CSN roster, maybe he seems some time at 3B so he can play every daym (might also affect how fast he moves through the minors – I thought he might play an decent RF too).

Also, his brother Brian is now a LHP for CSN, didn’t we draft him as a position player?

Bryan was drafted by the Nats in 2008 as a LHP
