Does this mean any combination of 39 Nats losses/Royals win will give us the #1 pick?

    pm – That is correct

The O’s are to close for comfort. It almost seem like they’re trying to get the #1 pick(maybe to out do us next year).

I feel we have a most excellent change to avoid the the first pick for next year!! A second, third or fourth first round pick is nothing to sneeze at. This is not the NBA or NHL. Also, I prefer my teams, particularly when I am there in person, to win not lose games. LETS GO NATS!!

Hey Sec, hate to have a all or nothing mentality, but if we are this bad a team, why not get the first pick. I mean winning is the goal and should always be the goal. That said, IF Harper is all that they say he is, then I would want the number 1 pick for him. You are right that quality players can be had at the 2nd, 3rd, etc picks, but Strasburg and Harper SEEM to be rare players where having the luck/ misfortune of the having the number 1 pick, would work out in the Nats favor.

Easy way to reconcile it. Root for KC, Baltimore & Pittsburgh to win. That way you aren’t rooting for Nationals to lose ;)

Great idea Brian! lol.. Go Nats!

There’s talk amongst my nats group about specifically NOT wanting to “win” the Bryce Harper circus, er I mean sweepstakes. Yes we want to focus on hitters next draft, but we’re wondering if there’s too much to this kid? Already a Boras client, talk about how he may be amazing with aluminum but his wood-bat exploits are sketchy. Too much money for a very very young player. etc.

Remember those stories about how Kwame Brown didn’t know how to do his laundry? Harper is going to be 1.5 yrs younger than Brown…
