Strasburg Updates

USA Today’s Bob Nightengale tweeted some important updates this morning

Stephen Strasburg will not pitch again this year until likely the instructional league or Arizona Fall League, agent Scott Boras says.

Strasburg, who got a $15.1 million guaranteed contract won’t make his MLB debut before 2010, Boras says. Press conference likely on Thursday.

They originally were seeking a deal in the low 20s, never $50 million as reported, Boras said on Strasburg negotiations.

A bowl of raisin bran and a banana – $2.50; a cup of lipton tea – $.85; two pieces of toast with butter – $.50; reading all of the silly ‘Strasburg reaches deal with Nationals’ articles – priceless!

Some thoughts from last night: 1 – The Nats did well, not just with the contract but from a PR standpoint too. Finally, there should be some universal praise around the league for getting it done while not doing something ridiculous like $30m. Well done. 2 – IF Rizzo was on point for the negotiations, like he said in NJ, that has to make him the favorite for the permanent job. How do you replace him now after this signing? 3 – Boras & Co did an amazing job overall last night. SS, Ackley, and Tate all got deals better than last year’s # 1 (I think) and Turner got about $2m more than his comparables like Miller and Wheeler. Even the SS deal, which I like for us, is 4 years, not 6. Most pre draft speculation that I saw was for 6 years, so he did really well on average value. 4 – I like the decisions contained in this post, but … uh… shouldn’t that come from the team, not agent? And isn’t it a little different than Rizzo’s ‘let’s see how his arm is before we decide?” 5 – Brian had the best night of all last night. But I want to know who that ‘good source’ at 12:05 was? Strasburg’s mother on twitter?

:-) gr8 job las night Brian we all appreciate your hard work.

We’re finally sending some real prospects to the AFL this year. Norris, Marrero, and maybe Strasburg should definitely be interesting.

Plus we brought in Karns. Thats two new power arms in the system. Our draft has’d to be in the top 5 around the league now.

Superior job Brian, you’re the first place to go to for all things Nationals related.
