Brian, could this promotion pretty much guarantee a Sept call up for Ian Desmond?

Desmond is close to becoming a National.

Maybe when/if Harris is traded.

Good start offensively by Desmond tonight in AAA. One of the few remaining picks by the Expos. He was signed by scout Russ Bove. Hope he makes it.

Brian, I was just wondering how you think the rest of Drew Storen’s season might play out as far as advancing in the system?
I know he got off to a rough start, but since he’s settled down it looks pretty clear that he’s too advanced for low-A ball (23 k’s vs 0 bb’s in 13.2 innings).

Joel – I really don’t know if the Nationals will do much more than perhaps give him a few appearances in Potomac to end the 2009 season. They have been much more methodical in their promotions this year.

Ian Desmond, congratulations on your promotion to Syracuse! Thanks for all the autographs, when you were in Harrisburg!!

Do you think it has anything to do with Bowden?

Lack of injuries has probably more to do with it. Last year, guys were forced up because they had no other options, especially position players (Bernadina, Montz, Maxwell). It seems teams at the extremes (no, I’m not listening to Paul Simon’s 2nd solo album, why do you ask) can “get away with” being more patient, even if their fans are not.

What would be the point in rushing Storen? He signed a minor league deal; so, it would only hurt the Nats to put him on the MLB roster.
Also, Storen’s season at Stanford started in late February this year and he signed right away; even though he is a reliever, probably a good idea to let his season end at the beginning of September.
If he continues to excel at Potomac, Storen would likely be the closer at H’burg or Cuse to start next season. With a strong season next year, would have a shot at pitching in DC at some point in 2010. Even that would be a very agressive promotion schedule.

I wish the Suns would let him pitch more than an inning at a time. It’s like he’s there – and then he’s gone. Throw us fans a bone here- 2 innings maybe? :o)

mcgalinmd, the Suns don’t decide how much he’ll throw, the Nats do. And I imagine he’ll be sticking to an inning at a time.
As for rushing him, a college guy with that type of stuff should already be in High A…

I think the Nationals FO will look at Rodriguez in POT for a couple of weeks first. If he performs well there, maybe look for Rodriguez to move up to HAR & for Storen to jump to POT, particularly if he keeps up with his current pace.

The methodical promotion of players is probably a good thing. Frankly, they rushed a couple guys in the past few years. Storen is pitching very well in Hagerstown.
