Potomac Nationals RHP Brad Meyers was named the Carolina League Pitcher of the Week for the period of June 29 through July 5. It’s the second time that Meyers has earned this honor in 2009 (previously May 4-10). He joins LHP Tom Milone (May 11-17) and 1B Chris Marrero (May 18-24) as P-Nats to earn this honor in 2009.
Meyers was 2-0 in his two starts with a 0.00 ERA and 0.92 WHIP. Over 13IP, he struck out eleven and walked two. For the season, Meyers is 6-2 with a 1.43 ERA and 1.04 WHIP.

Any scouting report on Cleto Crabal?

Maybe there’s something in the water in Harrisburg they want Meyers to avoid.

cj – Aside from FB with good movement, no. Someone asked if he was related to former Nationals farmhand Marcos Cabral, the answer is I do not know

This is hard to quantify but it sure seems we are getting more POTWs this year than in the past. This would indicate that, in fact, the farm is stronger than before.

Dick – Because you asked (and it’s slow at work)
As of this date, here are the POTW counts:
2005: 4 pitchers + 4 hitters
2006: 2 pitchers + 2 hitters
2007: 4 pitchers + 6 hitters
2008: 3 pitchers + 8 hitters
2009: 6 pitchers + 3 hitters
There 18 total POTW in 2005 (11 PIT/7 HIT), 7 total in 2006 (3 PIT/4 HIT), 12 total in 2007 (5 PIT/7HIT), and 15 total in 2008 (5 PIT/10 HIT).

Facts can be very pesky things. I buess subconsciously I was thinking of ptichers. Kind of confirms this. I’m surprised we had 8 hitters last year. Marrero was healthy most of that time, Burgess did well at low-A, Davis and Lowrance probably made the list, too.
Very interesting but probably proves nothing!
