Chiefs Add Two; Senators Lose Two

Syracuse has added RHPs Jeff Mandel & Drew Storen from Harrisburg. These moves put the Chiefs two over the max roster (26/24) and the Senators two under the max roster (22/24).

Interesting that Storen went to Syracuse before Strasburg did. The assumption has been that the two of them were joined at the hip.

Probably they are. I’d imagine Storen is scouting things up at Syracuse for Strasburg and Strasburg gets promoted after his start on Sunday for Harrisburg. I’m assuming the Sunday start is at home for Harrisburg and they’d like to stay conservative and feed the affiliate beast.

Agree, Strasburg is not far behind Storen. June will be here before we know it.

Syracuse is home for the two next probable turns in the rotation for Strasburg (May 7, 12) and then it’s a nooner at McCoy for the turn after that, then home again on the 22nd.

Congrats to Jeff and Drew! Any ideas on who makes the trip down from Central NY to Central PA?

Mandel is a spot start so he’ll be back in Harrisburg tomorrow, and probably replaced on the Syracuse roster with Storen. They still need to DL, demote or release someone from Syracuse to make room for Mandel tonight…

send Balester down to Harrisburg and see if he can’t transform into a reliever. I’m afraid it might be getting time to cut bait with this guy.

This makes a lot of sense on both fronts. Half of what Strasburg is learning in the minors is what it is like to be a pro athlete, what his daily responsibilities are when he’s not pitching (workouts, radar gun and charting pitches, etc), how to actually live with his wife and eat an athlete’s diet, etc.

Small things, but they are rather important.

other side of the Storen story is Aaron Crow is off to a shaky start in AA – walked 10 guys and given up 5 bombs in 21 innings

not signing Crow was one cheap Lerner move I agree with

But remember, Storen started his minor league career last June, while Straburg’s started a few weeks ago.

Everyone in the bullpen in Harrisburg is pitching lights out. The only reliever that has allowed a dinger is Drew Storen. They pretty much all look like they deserve a promotion.

But Especially Arneson who last year was a starter. This year they made him into the short/middle/spot start/close Batista kind of reliever. The results have been more than impressive. His stats over 17 innings and various situations make his promotion seem likely if it keeps up.
