Destin Hood to Vermont

The Nationals have promoted OF Destin Hood from the GCL to Vermont. He will replace OF Brian Pruitt on the Monsters roster; Pruitt heads to the GCL Nationals.

Hood was the Nationals second round pick in 2008 and was hitting 330/388/614 with 16 extra base hits over his 88AB.

Sweetness. Excited to see what he does in VT.

Coincidentally, Steven Goldstein of Baseball Prospectus today named Hood in his weekly ‘Monday Ten-Pack’ of hot prospects, saying that “with plus power and speed, his ceiling is as high as anyone’s in the system”

Do we think he projects out as a corner OF or CF?

    E. Perez has performed well too. Dere likely taking it a bit slower with him tho it being his first year in the states….

The more Michael Burgess continues to struggle down in Potomac (.230) the more important Destin Hood becomes to this franchise. There really isnt much at all in the farm system as far as power hitting OF prospects. I think we really need Destin to pan out, and so far the early returns seem promising.

Hood will be REALLY young for Vermont. If he is able to hold his own, that will be very promising.

Think Hood has always projected to be a LF.

Congrats Destin – have fun in Burlington!

Personally, Id like to see Burgess repeat Potomac next year.

He’ll only be 21 years old for the entire year next year, so being at the high A level still doesn’t place him in the overage category. He’d still be higher than most kids drafted out of college at that point. Some may have an issue with repeating the level, but he still has things to learn. We’ve challenged him so far, and he’s stepped up power wise but we need him to be more consistent.

As for Hood, I love that he’s played so well and got the promotion. Hopefully he plays well the rest of the year with Vermont and can be ready for Hagerstown next year. I honestly didn’t anticipate him hitting Hagerstown til the end of ‘10 because I knew they wanted to take it slow, so he’s moving a bit faster than expected IMO.

Are the Nats considering Aaron Seuss as a pitcher? I noticed he pitched this past weekend and throws a knuckleball. What’s the upside on this?

If Hood can share time at LF-DH with JP Ramirez & Bloxom, it’ll be for the good. Let’s him take the next step without the daily pressure.

homegrown – I think it’s more that Seuss is trying to make himself more valuable. That’s actually his fourth appearance on the mound this year with POT.
