DraftWatch 03/09/09


  1. San Diego State RHP Stephen Strasburg struck out 18 in a 5-3 win against the University of San Diego (Note: MiLB.com has started their 2009 Draft Reports with Strasburg, among others. I’ll update the sidebar with a link once they have a set place like 2008).
  2. [new] USC SS Grant Green was 2/12 with two runs, two stolen bases, and four strikeouts against Tulane this weekend.
  3. [new] North Carolina RHP Alex White had a no-decision in his Friday start against Clemson.  He allowed four runs on seven hits and one walk over six innings with six strikeouts. Matt Harvey, one of the early favorites for #1 overall in the 2010 draft also had a no-decision this weekend against the Tigers. He went seven innings, allowing one run on four hits and one walk with four strikeouts.
  4. [new] North Carolina 1B/OF Dustin Ackley was 2/14 with a run and four strikeouts against Clemson this weekend (all three games he started at 1B).
  5. [new] Missouri RHP Kyle Gibson picked up the win against Ball State on Friday, allowing one run on six hits and one walk over eight innings of work with thirteen strikeouts.
  6. [new] Baylor RHP Kendal Volz had a no-decision in his Saturday start against UC-Irvine. He allowed three runs on four hits and four walks over 6 1/3 innings with two strikeouts. Unsigned 2006 Nationals draft pick Dustin Dickerson was 6/12 for the Bears with a home run, two runs, and four RBI.
  7. [new] Oklahoma St LHP Andrew Oliver picked up the win against Oregon State allowing three runs on six hits and three walks over six innings of work with seven strikeouts.
  8. Vanderbilt LHP Mike Minor had a no-decision in a 3-2 loss to Illinois-Chicago (box). Minor allowed one run on eight hits and two walks over seven innings of work with seven strikeouts.
  9. [new] Tennessee OF Kentrail Davis was 2/15 with four runs four walks and three strikeouts against Ohio.
  10. [new] Notre Dame CF A.J. Pollock was a combined 4/12 with a run, two doubles, five RBI and a stolen base in the Academy Sports & Outdoors Rice Classic in Houston, TX this weekend (facing Oral Roberts, Rice, & Washington State).
  11. [new] Miami SS Ryan Jackson was 2/13 with three runs and two RBI against NC State.
  12. [new] California OF Brett Jackson was 3/12 with three runs, one RBI, and seven strikeouts against Arkansas.
  13. [new] Louisiana State SS D.J. LeMahieu was 3/10 with a run, stolen base and three walks against Illinois. 2008 unsigned Nationals draft pick RHP Louis Coleman made two appearances for the Tigers pitching a combined three innings allowing two unearned runs on three hits with two strikeouts.

    Wow! Seems like the pitching version of Joe Hardy. Of course I’ll sell my soul to get him, I’m not using it for anything now anyway.

    Did my thought about Dickerson lead you Brian to add him to the list? By the way, reading within the spring boxscores. IF Ledesma continues to be the old Good Wil “hunting for the strikezone”, then we see Justin Jones putting together two back to back outings from the pen. hmmmmm! weeks to go until April 6th. cheers everyone!
