Josh Wilkie to Syracuse

The Nationals will promote RHRP Josh Wilkie from Harrisburg to Syracuse. The 25-year old Wilkie is 5-2 with 3 saves over 34G (49 1/3IP) with a 2.37 ERA and 1.24 WHIP.

Wilkie has always been a favorite of mine. He was signed in June of 2006 as an undrafted free agent out of George Washington University. He has done nothing but provide solid work out of the bullpen ever since. Over his three plus seasons in the Nationals organization, he has arguably been among the most consistent arm out of whatever bullpen he’s been in, be it Hagerstown, Potomac, or Harrisburg.

He profiles as a right-handed option out of the bullpen and if he keeps pitching as he has, could see the major leagues in 2010.

I have been waiting for this for weeks…a much deserved promotion to an under-appreciated asset to this organization…a classy guy who respects his role and has quietly excelled for the last two years…I’m glad to see he is finally getting some of the respect he deserves…good luck Wilks

Josh Wilkie deserves the promotion and we wish him the very best. He is a very classy guy as mentioned above and is a great example of upcoming Nats stars of the future.

Timely Choice. Congrats to the Nationals organization in allowing Josh Wilkie to fully develop as a pitcher with it’s minor affiliates. Impress Syracuse, and then we’ll see you back in DC.

You see…in time..bullpens evolve! Brian, could Ian Snell be a potential closer or does Dana Brown still believe in his stuff as a starter…if Nats are truly wanting morew pitching……???? interesting that trade considerations are always about pitching vs. everyday players…the old debate…pitching can be turned into everyday players vs. an arm for a bat???
