Jenkins Signs
June 23rd, 2009
A quick scan of Google News turned up this article stating that the Nationals and 17th round selection Chad Jenkins had come to terms on a contract. This is not the same Jenkins rumored to have been a consideration at the #10 pick. This one was a left-handed pitcher from Cecil CC (MD). He was originally drafted by the Nationals in the 44th round of the 2006 draft but did not sign. The article mentions he will receive a $45K signing bonus and he’ll head off to the GCL Nationals.
That brings the total picks signed to 21. They have signed all five of the CC/JuCo arms they selected.

Brian: When did they sign Darius Rudolph (2B, 47th rd, Snead State CC)?
Does anyone know where we are with the signing of Jeffrey Kobernus? I haven’t seen or heard anything about it.
Oops, you stated arms only – nevermind.
Ff: Kobernus could be a tough sign, imo. He was a Jr-eligible in this years’ draft (Cal-Berkeley). He might just stay in school & get his degree.
Doubt Kobernus is a difficult sign. It’ll take some time, but he’s not very little to gain by going back. Yes, he gets his degree but he’s clearly in this to play ball. He likely slides next year because there isn’t much room to go up.
That, and we know outside of Strasburg, the Nats didn’t select tough signs because they weren’t going to pay the money.
He’ll sign – It took Hood a little time as well, and he was a guy that you knew was going to sign. Give it a little time.
No.
Anyone have an update on Stroman? He’s the only guy outside of the top couple picks I have any level of excitement for.
I know its a longshot, but one can hope …

That article says he’s in negotiations, but offers little else. I guess it’s a good sign he’s at least open to negotiations rather than saying, “I was an 18th round pick, I’m going to school” but doesn’t offer much insight.
