This is going to be a quick one today (make sure you check out the rehab starts today).
- Syracuse pitching allowed fifteen hits in a 4-3 eleven-inning loss in Rochester (box). After a strong start from RHP Jorge Sosa (6IP 6H 1R 1BB 5K), the Chiefs bullpen was scattered three runs on nine hits and three walks over the final four plus innings. Syracuse could only muster four hits of offense, a double by 1B Brad Eldred (1/3 with a run & RBI) and singles by RF/LF Jorge Padilla, CF Corey Patterson, and 2B Sett Bynum.
- Harrisburg and Potomac were off on Monday
- Hagerstown was blanked 3-0 in Lakewood (box). LHP Jack McGeary fell to 0-5 on the season, giving up three runs on six hits and two walks over 4 1/3 innings with just one strikeout. The Suns managed only three singles on the game, two by 3B Steven Souza and one by 2B Stephen Lombardozzi.
- DSL Nationals gave up only five hits but walked twenty in a 13-3 loss to the DSL Padres (box). 20-year old CA Andruth Ramirez was 1/3 with a triple and two RBI. I’ll let the pitching lines speak for themselves

You’ve got to root for Matt Chico. If he gets back to good health, I think we’ll see him starting in DC later this year.

I’m a huge Chico fan. I hope he makes it back as well…

Welcome back Chico! I loved his attitude taking the ball every time out a few seasons ago, it would be great to have him back fighting for a starting spot next spring.
Brian, is there concern with McGeary? I understand that sometimes the stats do not tell the whole story, so I was wondering if he is really struggling or if they are having him focus on fixing his mechanics and developing pitches without regard to the stats.

I’ve listened to his last few starts and it sounds like he is struggling with his command more often than I’d hope.
It’s his first year as a full-time professional so some growing pains are not unexpected, but the results so far have been discouraging

Tho he has the build of a scout’s dream, 6′6″, 190; think its time to cast “projectability” aside and say adios to Raudy Almonte.
It just ain’t happening, sorry to say.

I have to think that if he stays healthy and regains his effectiveness, that Chico will be a late season fill in for one of the rookie starters who has hit their innings limit.
I wouldn’t mind seeing him then compete for a permanent spot in the rotation next year. Having a surplus of quality starters would be a very welcome change.

McGeary is bouncing a lot of his curves. He’s still throwing hard. He has spurts–he’ll have 4 great innings, and one cruddy one. That’s really not that uncommon for a South Atlantic League pitcher.

Really good to see Chico making a rehab start. Here’s to hoping that he’ll be in the mix for DC at some point this year. I’m going to keep an eye out to see if I can see one of his rehab starts in the DC area.

Fyi, I think its Atilano today for Harrsiburg, not Alaniz. Though both are listed as still being on the DL today. would like to see Atilano back and healthy and back on the fast track to the majors…
